We love to celebrate the people who make NHC Procurement thrive. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on our Procurement & Contracts Officer Mark Douglas. He shares more about his role, a project he is proud of, and what makes our team.
What’s your role, and what does a typical day look like for you?
I’ve been part of the NHC Procurement team for nine months, as a Procurement & Contracts Officer. My role is dynamic and collaborative, supporting multiple projects for our members, organisations bound by public sector contract regulations.
A typical day involves ensuring that tender documentation is clear, comprehensive, and compliant. I run tenders smoothly and effectively, making sure every step aligns with procurement regulations. Once a tender is complete, I am responsible for setting up contracts that are robust and risk-aware – designed to support successful delivery throughout the contract lifecycle.
Ultimately, our goal is to help members achieve the best possible outcomes from our solutions, ensuring value, compliance, and confidence in every procurement process.
What’s one project you’re really proud of?
I’ve recently supported two separate projects for Salford City Council through our HVAC + R Draining & Plumbing dynamic purchasing system (DPS). These projects stand out for me because Salford places a strong emphasis on social value – something I’ve been proud to help deliver across Greater Manchester.
From initial procurement to contract setup, I worked closely with stakeholders to ensure that the council’s social value priorities were embedded throughout. It’s rewarding to know that the work we do not only meets technical and compliance standards but also contributes positively to the local community.
What’s one thing you think makes our team unique or strong?
It’s the sense of togetherness. Everyone on our team is here to make a difference – not for personal gain. There are no egos, just genuine collaboration and support at every step. We lift each other up, share knowledge freely, and work as one to deliver the best outcomes for our members.
What three words would you use to describe working at NHC?
Supportive. Collaborative. Friendly!
